The downed lines near the Microsoft campus, located at 1065 La Avenida, left as many as 372 customers without power at 9:23 p.m., a PG&E spokesman said. At midnight there were 199 remaining customers expected to be without power until 8 a.m. this morning.
Fire crews were dispatched to La Avenida and Space Park Way after multiple calls at 9:23 p.m. reported flames and explosion sounds. Crews discovered a brush fire in an area under high voltage power lines, with many of them down.
The fire was quickly brought under control and no structures were affected although an acre of vegetation was burned in the blaze, fire officials said.
One resident at a nearby mobile home park was taken to the hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. No firefighter injuries were reported, fire officials said.
Parts of the nearby Stevens Creek Trail are closed this morning as downed power lines remain in the area, officials said.
The area affected by power outages includes North Shoreline Boulevard and north of U.S. Highway 101 along Crittenden Lane, Space Park Bay, La Avenida and Macon Avenue, PG&E spokesman J.D. Guidi said.
He said utility crews are investigating the downed lines that caused the fire and checking if there was possible equipment failure at a substation.
