Armed robbery at Stanford Shopping Center

PALO ALTO, Calif.

Around 2:30 p.m. officers responded to reports of a victim who had been beaten on the north side of the shopping center, located at 180 El Camino Real, near the Macy's men's store, police said.

Arriving officers found a man in his 60s who had apparently just left a jewelry store where he had gotten pieces of jewelry appraised. A group of suspects then robbed him of the jewelry while he was putting it into his trunk, police said.

The suspects were described as three or four well-dressed men, who were possibly Hispanic. The primary suspect was believed to be in his 30s with a goatee and wearing a hip-length black jacket, white slacks, black shoes and a black driving cap, according to police.

Police said the suspect was armed with a handgun and the suspects fled together in a black Dodge minivan.

The victim suffered moderate injuries and paramedics took him to a hospital where he was treated. He was later released from the hospital.
