Fire crews extricate electrical worker from manhole

SAN FRANCISCO

The fire department received a call around 9:20 p.m. Sunday of a person stuck in a manhole near the intersection of Howard and Fremont streets.

It took fire crews about 30 minutes to extricate the man, whom a fire dispatcher believed to be a Pacific Gas and Electric worker working in an underground vault beneath the manhole when he became stuck. However, a PG&E spokesman Sunday night said the incident did not involve one of the utility's workers.

A PG&E spokesman was not immediately available for comment this morning.

No injuries were reported in the incident.
