Special Olympics torch passes through San Mateo

SAN MATEO, Calif.

They were there to carry the Special Olympics torch across the entire county of San Mateo. That's almost marathon distance.

It's been a long tradition for law enforcement to carry the torch as a way to raise money for the Special Olympics. Last year, they raised more than $42 million nationwide.

The torch will pass through San Francisco on Monday. It will end its run a week from Friday in Davis -- in time for the opening ceremonies of the Northern California Special Olympics.
