The Consumer Product Safety Commission says the number of injuries for school-aged kids under 18 years old increased more than 6 percent in the last year.
The commission recommends backpacks weigh less than 15 percent of the child's overall body weight. It also recommends that kids avoid backpacks with narrow straps, which can dig into shoulder muscles.
