Person survives being struck by BART train

OAKLAND, Calif.

The Lake Merritt Station reopened and service resumed in both directions around 3:50 p.m., BART spokeswoman Alicia Trost said. However, passengers should expect residual delays of 30 to 40 minutes.

The station was closed just after 2:50 p.m. when a Dublin/Pleasanton-bound train struck a person on the tracks as it approached Platform 1, Trost said.

The person, who was on the tracks for an unknown reason when the train pulled into the station, survived and was taken to a hospital.

"Police officers observed him walking and talking during the incident," Trost said.

Trains began traveling through the station on a single track around 3:20 p.m., and at 3:50 p.m. full service was restored.
