Police fatally shoot suspect on roof in Antioch

ANTIOCH, Calif.

"I was in my room watching TV and then I heard gunshots and I hit the ground -- it was 15-16 gunshots and I was like 'whoa,'" said Chris Green of Antioch.

Chris Green and his brothers knew the gunfire they heard last night was nearby, but they never dreamed the man being shot at was on the roof of their Antioch home.

"I was startled, I didn't know what to do. It was just shocking that it was on my roof and I heard the gunshots, it was so close," said Elijah Green of Antioch.

Police were trying to catch the man after being called to a domestic violence disturbance involving a gun. They say he first tried to escape in a car- with a young child inside. When he crashed, he ran away, leaving the child behind. He ran through several backyards before deciding to climb up on the roof of the Green's home.

"I don't know what made him go on my roof, but he was on my roof," said Elijah Green.

Police said officers shot at the man when he pointed his gun at them, which had many people here at Enea Way and Wainfleet Court running for cover.

"A little scary, a little scary - I ducked and ran into the house," said John Barnett of Antioch.

Investigators haven't said whether the man shot at officers, but the Green brothers believe he did.

"Actually I think he did fire first. Because it was boom, boom than it went pow, pow, pow, pow, pow, pow," said Chris Green.

The man died on the roof of their home.

"I never saw the guy and I don't know who he is. That's sad because that's somebody's dad or uncle and at the end of the day, he's not coming home," said Chris Green.

The men who lived in the house heard, but did not see the man who was shot. Police have not confirmed if the man fired at them and they have not released his identity. Police did say that the child that was inside his car is OK.
