Local retailers prepare for Small Business Saturday

BERKELEY, Calif.

It's all part of a nationwide movement called Small Business Saturday. It's evident in many businesses across the East Bay. In Albany, stores promote the fact they are local. It's the hook that shop owners hope will bring in customers, even though they can't offer deep discounts.

One shopper told ABC7 News that it's the commitment to the community that counts, "They support our schools by offering discounts and helping with auctions and all kinds of community events that happen in our town, so we're giving back to them," Albany resident Michelle Millard said.

This is the third year for Small Business Saturday. A survey shows 67 percent of those familiar with the initiative are planning to participate.
