"I'm sad, I'm very sad for my daughter," said Araceli Herrera.
Herrera broke down in tears talking about her grief. It is heartbreaking enough she lost her husband of seven years, but Ivan Segura was also a devoted father to their 5-year-old daughter and that emptiness is indescribable.
"He would always, in the morning, wake up to give her milk and take care of her," said Herrera.
It is a routine which ended forever when Segura became the cities first homicide victim of the year. The family discovered his body outside their Tripoli Avenue home on Jan. 6th. Now, it needs the public's help to end a new routine which is an agonizing nightmare.
"We don't want to wake up every morning asking the same questions 'Why?' and 'Who?'" said Abigail, Seguras' sister-in-law.
So far, police don't have those answers. The 34-year-old victim grew up in San Jose and worked as a barber. Police are not saying how many times Segura was shot, but at least once. Investigators say there is no reason to think the husband and father was involved in gangs or any illegal activity.
"We don't see any of that in this case, all we see is a person somebody decided to kill and we're left scratching our heads," said San Jose Police Sgt. Jason Dwyer.
It is frustrating for police not to have the evidence or witnesses they need to make an arrest. If anyone knows anything, they only have to listen to Herrera to also know they should come forward. "It is very hard for me because I have a daughter, 5 years old, and she is asking for him and I don't have answers."
