The shooting was reported at about 5 p.m. in the 2700 block of Kollmar Drive, near the intersection of the East Capitol Expressway and Story Road.
Police found the man there suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital for treatment, but the extent of his injuries is not yet clear.
Officers are searching the area for suspects and Ryan Elementary School, which is about a block from the shooting scene, has been placed on lockdown.
Police said that there were still after-school activities happening when the shooting happened.
The shooting is believed to be gang-related, police said.
