On Tuesday the Petaluma Animal Services Foundation helped rescue a baby fox trapped in a sewer pit. They received a call from a Petaluma Water Department worker saying he had seen a baby fox stuck in a huge sewer pit. The pit is no longer in use, but is on city property.

The Petaluma Animal Services Foundation said they have been observing a family of kits and their mom living in a field adjacent to the property with the sewer pit. They put two and two together and figured the kit belonged to the den they have been keeping an eye on.

Two animal control officers climbed down into the pit and netted the fox. Once the fox was rescued, the foundation was able to release the fox near his den. The fox did not appear to be injured.
