San Jose's city council is expected to approve the purchase of new parking meters Tuesday -- but they come with a price.

The current meters are outdated in today's digital age. So, the city is looking to purchase new "smart meters" for $1.3 million that will accept payment through cellphones, credit cards, or coins.

However, the rates will most likely double on the new meters, from $1 to $2 an hour.
