7th grader wins state geography bee for 3rd time

A seventh-grade geography whiz from San Carlos is on his way to Washington D.C. again!

Tuvya Bergson-Michelson beat out 100 4th through 8th graders on Friday and won the 2014 California National Geographic Bee at Fresno State for the third straight year.

Tuvya, who attends the Nueva School in Hillsborough, wins $100 and he'll participate in the National Geographic Bee in mid-May.

Two other Bay Area students finished in second and third. Tyler Derrico of Castro Valley and Rhea Mitr.

In fact, nine out of the final 10 contestants were from the Bay Area.
