Some BART riders disappointed by Warm Springs commute transfer

FREMONT, Calif. (KGO) -- It's only been open a little more than a week and already some BART riders aren't happy with its newest station. The problem isn't the Warm Springs stop itself, it's the lack of trains.

According to our media partner the San Jose Mercury News, riders are discovering the Warm Springs station does not provide full service. On weekdays until 6 p.m., you can go anywhere on the Daly City line from Warm Springs. But if you're on the Richmond line, you have to get off on the next stop, the Fremont station and then transfer to another northbound train. Then at 6 p.m. and on weekends, the schedule flips.

"You just got off the train here in Fremont and you came from Warm Springs? Right, yeah, it's a little inconvenient. Yeah, I just wish it was all the way," said Rich Miyamoto, a Milpitas resident.

"When I came in Monday morning when it opened, I was really disappointed they weren't just bringing it down one more station. So it actually adds 15 minutes to my commute time going in," said Bruce Lorenzen, a BART commuter.

A spokesperson told the Mercury News says the info about the train change is on their map. They say there are not enough trains to run two-line service and when they get the new cars. They'll start the full service, likely in 2018.

"It's inconvenient. There's no question about it. It causes some walking but I like walking. I like public transportation so what am I going to say," said Tom Geer, a Morgan Hill resident.

State Senator Steve Glazer told the Mercury News he was not surprised, saying "BART management has a history of overpromising and under delivering. It's why public confidence in BART is declining. Their own surveys prove that. They hid the ball."

Some people may find it easier to just drive to the Fremont BART station until full service starts.
