Emeryville residents say homes damaged by fire looted
EMERYVILLE, Calif (KGO) -- Some East Bay residents lost everything after a huge fire broke out at a apartment building under construction in Emeryville earlier this month.
The flames spread to nearby homes and now those neighbors say they have been targeted by looters.
Some of the residents only had seconds to evacuate when the fire broke out, so they had to leave a lot of personal belongings inside their homes.
Now, they're returning to their homes for the first time and it's clear someone has been there.

It has been almost two weeks since the 6-alarm fire tore through an apartment building and homes on the Emeryville-Oakland border.
At the City Crossing townhouses on Apgar Street, some units have been yellow or even red tagged, which means they are unsafe to enter. But residents say looters are getting in. "The neighbors couldn't get their things out right away because the property management company was either saying it wasn't safe or they were saying they couldn't get in there or they were saying whatever. Now, the things that were salvageable are pretty much stolen," Oakland resident Jason said.

One resident ABC7 News spoke with on the phone filed a police report. He said he found his place ransacked and now he's worried about identity theft.
