High school bands rock out in Battle of the Bands competition
Several high school bands performed in the Battle of the Bands at San Francisco's Golden Gate Park Monday for a chance to win $28,000 in prize money.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Fleet Week was a big attraction this weekend, but Monday was the day some high school students were waiting for.

Eight high schools faced off in the Battle of the Bands at San Francisco's Golden Gate Park.

Hayward's Mount Eden band was among the bands that performed.

The bands played three different selections.

The event is sponsored by the U.S. Marines who is looking for a few good bands. "It takes a lot of dedication for these young men and women from these high schools to learn their craft, practice their instruments, come in during the summer. That's the same kind of dedication that we expect from our marines," US Marines Staff Sgt. Mark Pellon said.

The eight bands competed for $28,000 in prize money.
