A recent graduate of California State University, East Bay has died in a freak accident on a Peninsula beach.

Twenty-six-year-old Adam Pye was digging a hole in the sand at Francis State Beach in Half Moon Bay when the sand collapsed and buried him.

Rescuers say Pye was standing in a 10-foot hole on Monday around 5:30 p.m. when the sand poured back into the hole and buried him.

Firefighters are using this as a reminder to the public to be aware of the hidden dangers associated with visits to the beach.
