EB 580 at Vasco Road in Livermore re-opens

LIVERMORE, Calif. (KGO) -- All lanes of eastbound Interstate Highway 580 in Livermore re-opened by 6 p.m. Wednesday following a fatal, multi-vehicle accident.

CHP Officer Steve Creel said officers responded to reports of a multiple-vehicle collision on I-580 just east of Vasco Road at 3:07 p.m.

Creel said it appears that a pickup truck rear-ended a Jeep Cherokee, which overturned and caught on fire. A Honda Civic and another pickup truck were also involved in the crash, Creel said.

Passersby pulled up to the scene and extinguished the fire, Creel said.

"It appears the fatality was not fire-related but possibly due to other causes," Creel said, adding it was too early in the investigation to determine the cause of the collision.

One person from the Honda Civic and another from a pickup truck were transported to Sutter Tracy Community Hospital with minor injuries or as a precautionary measure, Creel said.
