SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- ABC7's 24th annual Give Where You Live Thanksgiving food drive is helping Bay Area food banks serve those in our community who aren't sure if they have enough food for themselves or their families.
ABC7 News Weather Anchor Spencer Christian was at Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo counties in San Jose on Friday with a look at just how critical this holiday campaign is.
Second Harvest Food Bank provides food to almost a quarter of a million people a month. They've just launched their holiday food and fund drive.
On behalf of ABC7 and our parent company Disney, ABC7's Spencer Christian presented a check for $15,000 to the food bank's CEO Kathy Jackson. "This will allow us to provide meals to 30,000 different people, so thank you so much," Jackson said. "I hope it inspires others."
Second Harvest works through a network of nearly 330 partner agencies at more than 700 sites.
Volunteers distributed more than 62 million pounds of food last year, the equivalent of nearly 142,500 meals a day. That includes 33 million pounds of produce, more produce than any other food bank in the U.S.
If you'd like to help, text the word FEED to number 80077 to donate $10 to Bay Area food banks. When prompted, reply with YES to confirm the donation and have it added to your phone bill.
ABC7 invites you to #ShareTheJoy this holiday season. We want to see how you're helping your community. Tag your photos or videos on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook with #abc7now.
