SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KGO) -- ABC7's 25th annual Give Where You Live Thanksgiving food drive is helping Bay Area food banks serve those in our community who aren't sure if they have enough food for themselves or their families.
ABC7 News Weather Anchor Spencer Christian was at the SF-Marin Food Bank in San Francisco on Wednesday with a look at just how critical this holiday campaign is.
More than 840,000 people from Sonoma County to Gilroy go hungry each month. That's 1-in-9 of our friends and neighbors in the Bay Area and 1-in-4 in San Francisco and Marin counties.
The SF-Marin Food Bank serves 144,000 people each month and needs to raise $8 million this holiday season to feed those in need. They also still need more than 1,000 turkeys to fulfill their goal this year.
ABC7' Give Where You Live Thanksgiving food drive hopes to help our five Bay Area food banks serve the more than 840,000 people in need of food each month. That statistic actually went up from 780,000 last year.
On behalf of ABC7 and our parent company Disney, Christian presented a check for $15,000 to the SF-Marin Food Bank, which will provide 45,000 meals to the communities it serves.
If you'd like to help, text the word FEED to number 80077 to donate $10 to Bay Area food banks. When prompted, reply with YES to confirm the donation and have it added to your phone bill.
ABC7 invites you to #ShareTheJoy this holiday season. We want to see how you're helping your community. Tag your photos or videos on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook with #abc7now.
