Alameda County Fair now open in Pleasanton

PLEASANTON, Calif. (KGO) -- The Alameda County Fair opened its doors Wednesday for the start of the annual summer tradition with special deals and the return of a popular highlight.

You name it - they're frying it, from pickles to corn dogs. Other food items include spaghetti ice cream, macaroni-stuffed hamburgers, and turkey legs. The fair has turned up the volume this year. Fair-goers will still find old standbys in the midway, but they'll also find new attractions like a high dive and an impressive concert lineup.

"We have a new CEO and he really has a vision of our fair and what it can be, and showcase it to our community," marketing manager Angel Moore told ABC7 News.

Approximately 500,000 people are expected to visit the fair over the next 17 days. And for the first time in 15 years, there will be fireworks on the 4th of July. "We're bringing back our 4th of July fireworks and we're really just doing a whole tribute to our county. So, it'll be set to music," Moore said.

Kids get free admission on Friday.
