Edgewood Fire: PG&E files incident report for San Mateo Co. fire as power outage continues at Stanford

PG&E has filed an incident report out of an abundance of caution due to numerous media inquiries following the Edgewood Park Fire.

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (KGO) -- PG&E has filed an incident report with the California Public Utilities commission out of an abundance of caution due to numerous media inquiries following the Edgewood Fire.

More than 48 hours have passed since the Edgewood Fire started under the extreme heat near Rocky Way and Eastview Way at Edgewood County Park.

WHAT TO KNOW: Fires burning in or near Sunol, Benicia, Vacaville, Port Costa, San Mateo Co.

According to an incident report filed by PG&E with the California Public Utilities Commission, CAL FIRE collected PG&E equipment from the Emerald Lake Distribution Circuit in the vicinity of the Edgewood Fire.

The report says the equipment was collected about a half-mile away from where the fire initially started.

When we reached out to PG&E, the spokesperson did not directly comment on the incident report saying in part the fire cause is still under investigation.

The fire has not only impacted equipment but created another problem for PG&E - a loss of power for multiple customers including Stanford University's campus.

"I was sitting and trying to study in my dorm room and the lights went out," Graduate student Scarlet Whitmore said. "I thought they would come on in a couple of minutes."

But a couple of minutes turned to a couple of hours and now a couple of days.

PG&E cannot access the location where repairs are needed, leaving students with few options in this hot Bay Area weather.

"What do you do?" Graduate student Brandon Clark asked. "Do you stay in your work building without A/C or do you go back to your residential areas without A/C? The options can be kind of limited."

The university has canceled summer session classes for the remainder of the week as limited power is focused on high-priority buildings.

That includes five locations on campus where students can cool down and charge their phones or computers.

Everyone is doing what they can to stay safe and operate as usual, but PG&E and Stanford say there's no timetable as to when power may be restored fully.

"Just still 'a couple days' is what we're hearing," Whitmore said. "Hopefully it will be sooner than that, but, we're kind of preparing for the worst."

The Edgewood fire was 90% contained as of Thursday morning.
