Antioch woman shot while asleep in her bed

ANTIOCH, Calif. (KGO) -- A young woman was shot while sleeping in her bed in Antioch early Thursday morning.

Suspects fired into the woman's home in the 1100 block of West Fifth Street around 4 a.m., according to police. The bullets pierced the window and the front door.

Antioch police dispatch received calls from the victim's family members, who were inside the home, saying that the woman had been shot.

"We were all sleeping. And it just woke us up and she got grazed by the bullet," one young family member said.

Police said emergency responders found the victim at the scene bleeding from a gunshot wound on the back of her neck.

She was taken to a hospital to be treated for her injuries and is expected to survive.

Police have not made any arrests, even though the shooting occurred a block away from the police department, but they said they don't think the shooting was random. They believe that this unit was targeted, although they did not explain why.

The family believes the shooting was random and just part of life in Antioch. "I'm kinda used to all this because, in Antioch, this is like a daily thing. I hear gunshots every night, whether it's around here or down the street, but this time, I guess, it was aimed at our building," the family member said.
