Chronology of Ford Recalls of Speed Control Deactivation Switch*

NHTSA Recall No. 07V-336 (Ford Recall No. 05S28 Supplement)
On August 2, 2007, Ford announced that they would recall approximately 4,000,000 vehicles to install a remedy for a potentially defective speed control deactivation switch (SCDS). These are model year 1992 through 2003 vehicles. This action is being taken to prevent engine compartment fires. The vehicles subject to this recall include the following:

  • a. 1998 – 2002 Model Year Ford Ranger and Mazda B-series
  • b. 1992 – 1998 Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis
  • c. 1992 – 1998 Lincoln Town Car
  • d. 1993 – 1998 Lincoln Mark VIII
  • e. 1993 – 1995 Ford Taurus SHO with automatic transmission
  • f. 1994 Mercury Capri
  • g. 1999-2001 Ford Explorer and Mercury Mountaineer
  • h. 2001 – 2002 Ford Explorer Sport and Explorer Sport Trac
  • i. 1993 Ford Bronco
  • j. 1993 Ford F-Series gasoline or natural gas vehicles
  • k. 1995 – 2002 Ford F53 Motor home chassis
  • l. 2003 - 2004 Ford F – 150 Lightning vehicles
  • m. 1992 - 1993 and 1997-2002 Ford E150-350 gasoline or natural gas vehicles
  • n. 2003 Ford E-450 gasoline or natural gas vehicles

    NHTSA Recall No. 07V-078 (Ford Recall No. 05S28 Supplement)
    On March 1, 2007, Ford announced that they would recall approximately 155,584 vehicles to install a remedy for a potentially defective SCDS. These are model year 2003 vehicles that were built early in the model year's production. This action is being taken to prevent engine compartment fires. The vehicles subject to this recall include the following:

  • a. 2002 MY Ford E-550 (gasoline engine)
  • b. 2003 MY Ford F-150, F250-550 SD, Excursion (early build)
  • c. 2003 MY E-550 (natural gas and gasoline), Lincoln Blackwood (early build)

    NHTSA Recall No. 06V-286 (Ford Recall No. 05S28 Supplement)
    On July 27, 2006, Ford announced that they would recall approximately 1,200,000 vehicles to install a remedy for a potentially defective SCDS. These are model year 1994 through 2002 vehicles. This action is being taken to prevent engine compartment fires. The vehicles subject to this recall include the following:

  • a. 1994 – 2002 MY Ford F250 – 550 SD
  • b. 2000 - 2002 MY Ford Excursions;
  • c. 1994 – 1996 MY Econoline
  • d. 1996 – 2002 MY Ford E-450 (natural gas and gasoline)
  • e. 1998 MY Ford Explorer, Mountaineer

    On September 7, 2005, Ford announced that they would recall approximately 4,500,000 light trucks to install a remedy for a potentially defective SCDS. These are model year 1994 through 2002 vehicles. This action is being taken to prevent engine compartment fires. The vehicles subject to this recall include the following:

  • a. 1994 – 1996 MY Ford Broncos
  • b. 1997 - 2002 MY Ford Expedition;
  • c. 1997 – 2002 MY Lincoln Navigator;
  • d. 1994 – 2002 MY Ford F150;
    NHTSA Recall No. 05V-017 (Ford Recall No. 05S28)
    On January 27, 2005, Ford announced that they would recall approximately 775,000 light trucks to replace the SCDS. These are model year 2000 and model year 2001 vehicles built through August 7, 2000. This action is being taken to prevent engine compartment fires. The vehicles subject to this recall include the following:

  • a. 2000 MY Ford Expedition;
  • b. 2000 MY Lincoln Navigator;
  • c. 2000 MY Ford F150;
  • d. 2001 MY F150 Super Crew or Crew Cab built from 9/11/99 – 8/7/2000;
    NHTSA Recall No. 99V-124 (Ford Recall No. 99S15)
    On May 13, 1999, Ford announced that they would recall approximately 279,000 vehicles to replace the SCDS. These are model year 1992 and model year 1993 vehicles built through November 30, 1992. This action is being taken to prevent engine compartment fires. The vehicles subject to this recall include the following:

  • a. 1992 – 1993 MY Ford Crown Victoria, Lincoln Town Car, Mercury Grand Marquis.
