Six outstanding Bay Area students who exhibited exemplary skills in presentation, writing, and leadership have been awarded a $1,000 scholarship toward college education and will be featured profile in a special half-hour show (ABC7 Top Scholars). The project is intended to promote academic excellence by honoring and rewarding our top achievers.
Featured in this segment: Jibran Khan of Monte Vista High School
Invitations to participate in the ABC7 Top Scholars program were sent to hundreds of schools throughout the Bay Area. Each school was allowed to nominate up to four students to participate. Once nominated, each student filled out the Student Application, due to ABC7 no later that 8:00PM on Tuesday, April 1, 2008. Applications were reviewed by a panel of judges, comprised of ABC7 representatives and several community members. Winners were informed in late April 2008.
In July, watch for a special half-hour of ABC7 Top Scholars, featuring the stories of all six of our winners (airdate TBA). Also tune in for news about multiple re-broadcasts on our second digital channel (Comcast channel 194).
