The tree, made of selenide nano-wires, can only be seen under an electron microscope.
The real tree is the centerpiece of the Stanford seal. It is also the mascot of the Stanford band and the tree that the city of Palo Alto is named after.
Images of the tree were published in the science journal Nature Nanotechnology.
