The incident was reported around 4:10 p.m. when a person was seen under a train, prompting the closure of the Richmond station, according to BART spokesman Linton Johnson.
The Contra Costa County coroner's office was able to remove the body from the tracks by around 6:25 p.m. but the circumstances of the incident is continuing to be investigated, Johnson said.
Although Johnson said he didn't know how long delays would last, by about 6 p.m. there were still delays systemwide of up to 15 minutes.
