Rio Vista Elementary in Bay Point, Bayview Elementary in Richmond and Cambridge Elementary in Concord will observe "International Walk to School Day," celebrated in Great Britain, Canada and the U.S.
The event aims to promote "walkable" neighborhoods by reducing traffic around school zones, increasing pedestrian safety, and cultivating healthy lifestyle habits for kids, according to Contra Costa County Health Services.
Event planners hope participating students will be inspired to walk to school every day, not just on Wednesday.
