On Friday morning, WaMu held the grand opening for its first branch in Benicia. The bank is on Southampton Road.
WaMu marked the event by giving a $2,100 donation to the Benicia Performing Arts Foundation.
"The community is very supportive. Customers have been waiting for a branch to open, so this is a good thing," said WaMu Financial Center manager Eric Smith.
You may remember Washington Mutual was saddled with billions of dollars in mortgage-related losses. Last month, the federal government seized the bank's assets and sold them to JP Morgan-Chase.
The deal will eventually allow WaMu customers access to more than 5,000 bank branches in 23 states.
