Olivia Rose Carretero, 23, is one of five people who were killed when a pleasure boat struck a tugboat in Palm Valley, Fla., according to the Florida Fish and Game Conservation Commission.
Jaime Hole and Amanda Bartson, both 22, were injured in the accident, Fish and Game Conservation Commission officials said. They were taken to the Shands Jacksonville Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla. A hospital spokeswoman said they are in a private room but did not give their conditions.
The three Santa Rosa women lived together in South Lake Tahoe this past winter and worked at Heavenly Ski Resort, family members said. It is unknown whether they were permanently living in South Lake Tahoe.
Robert Trent Craig, 23, a former Santa Rosa resident, also was killed in the crash and former Santa Rosa resident Brittney Nicole Joyce, 19, was injured, authorities said. Joyce is in the intensive care unit, a hospital spokeswoman said. Her condition was not available.
Craig and Joyce recently moved to Jacksonville Beach, Fla. Carretero, Bartson and Hole flew to Florida to visit them Friday, family members said.
Florida Fish and Game Conservation Commission spokeswoman Joy Hill said 14 people were aboard the 22-foot 2000 Crownline vessel that crashed into the right side of a 25-foot tugboat moored at a dock a mile north of the Palm Valley Bridge in Palm Valley approximately 20 miles north of St. Augustine.
National Transportation Safety Board officials said the collision happened around 6:30 p.m. Sunday in St. John's County. Along with the NTSB, the St. John's County Sheriff's Office and the Fish and Game Conservation Commission are investigating the collision.
