Twenty-eight-year-old Melissa Huckaby was set to face an evidence hearing in September in open court. But the district attorney has opted to present evidence to a secret grand jury to try to keep the case out of the headlines and keep the trial in San Joaquin County.
The Stockton Record reports those proceedings began Monday and are expected to take about two weeks.
