A Kansas City Star Newspaper investigation has found that Enterprise Rent-A-Car ordered 2006 through 2008 Chevy Impalas without the car's standard side impact airbags.
The company saved $175 per car on 66,000 cars saving $11.5 million, according to the paper. It is perfectly legal to buy the car that way.
Safety experts say the cars are not as safe and consumers would not be expecting the bags to be deleted.
Some of those cars, fewer than 1,000 according to Enterprise, were inadvertently advertised as having the airbags when resold. Those car buyers are being contacted.
