Bomb-sniffing dogs detected the package at a SFO security checkpoint around 4:15 p.m.
The domestic terminal was partially evacuated and passengers were taken to another screening area. The security checkpoint remains closed.
The bomb squad is on scene investigating the luggage.
An airport spokesperson says no flights have been delayed or cancelled. The checkpoint reopened just after 6 p.m.
