Bretislav Drasky was spotted by a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter at 6:18 p.m., according to the coroner's office. He had been reported missing about two hours earlier.
A Coast Guard motorboat then recovered the San Francisco man's body.
U.S. Coast Guard Lt. j.g. Jeremy Pichette said Drasky was taken to Coast Guard Station Golden Gate in Sausalito, where paramedics pronounced him dead. The body was transferred to the Marin County coroner's office.
A pedestrian walking on the Golden Gate Bridge reported seeing a surfboard and a sail in the water east of the bridge near Crissy Field at about 4:30 p.m., according to Pichette. The Coast Guard then launched a helicopter and boat for the search.
A description provided by a friend of Drasky at Crissy Field matched the description of the body recovered, Pichette said.
