Chief Anthony Batts was the guest speaker at a community meeting Saturday. Batts is still technically the police chief in Long Beach where he has worked for nearly 30 years.

During his tenure as chief there that city's crime rate dropped to its lowest level since the mid 19-70's.

"The way I lead organizations is that we're a customer-driven organization. I am not coming in here to tell you what we will do," he said. "I'm coming in here to listen to you. You are the bosses. You pay our salaries. Your tax money goes into our salary, so we work for you."

Batts will be sworn-in to his new post as Oakland police chief on October 19th.
