The Coast Guard said the excavator got stuck in the mud last Saturday trying to remove temporary pilings put in for the new Bay Bridge project. Crews have been waiting for low tide to remove it from the water.
No injuries have been reported.
Workers put a boom around it, presumably to capture any oil or lubricants used to run the excavator. A small oil sheen can be seen in the Bay.
