Mayor Ron Dellums and comedian Mark Curry lit the tree Thursday evening in front of City Hall.
This year's tree is 30 feet tall and has more than 3,000 energy-saving LED lights and 600 ornaments.
The tree lighting also serves as the kick-off for Oakland's annual toy drive.
