That's how the Saints beat the Vikings this year with a field goal in overtime. The Vikings never got the ball back.
However, if you score a touchdown with the new rules, the game is over.
For the past 15 years, the team winning the coin flip has won 60-percent of overtime games.
"We felt that in enacting this change to do it for the playoffs would be entirely consistent with the history of the league and be an appropriate way to deal with an issue that I think everyone around the game felt was a 'equity of fairness issue,'" said Indianapolis Colts President Bill Polian.
So that is the compromise there.
