Pittsburg clerk alive after being shot six times

PITTSBURG, CA

Neighbors say the case is especially troubling because the victim is so well liked and respected. The clerk who was shot Monday night at the La Aurora Market on West 10th Street.

Police are investigating after the shooting and attempted robbery at about 10:30 Monday night. A couple men with guns came in and demanded money, then they opened fire hitting the 27-year-old clerk six times. The clerk was patched up at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek and is doing fine. Many people said the clerk was a good man and a Good Samaritan.

"He is the nicest guy in the world. He will give people credit if you need anything -- if you need help. He is just really nice he helps out everyone in the neighborhood," said Pittsburg resident Nancy Parrish.

"He is a nice person. He likes to help other people. I don't know why they did this to him," said Pittsburg resident Lisa Gomez.

In the store at the time of the shooting were the clerk's 14-year-old nephew and another clerk - neither of whom were shot by the would-be robbers.

A description of the shooters has not been released yet.
