Hundreds gathered at Redwood City's Union Cemetery on Woodside Road. The cemetery houses the graves of about 40 Civil War veterans.
The "Decoration Day" practice of placing flags next to veterans' graves began in the 1860's after the Civil War.
Today, we call Decoration Day, "Memorial Day."
