The tree fell at near the intersection of Filomena Avenue and North San Pedro Street. No one was injured when the tree fell. It was only two blocks away from the San Jose police headquarters.
Police units at first responded to what they thought was a break-in in progress, because neighbors were awakened by a loud noise. Of course no break-in occurred and the sound was caused by the tree.
The tree also took out some power wires, and PG&E was on the scene restoring power to the two customers affected.
There was not a lot of wind last night that would have knocked the tree over. Some suspect the tree soaked up a lot of rain over the season and mixed with the recent heat, the tree may have cracked from the expansion. A neighbor said that another tree branch crashed last week.
