California has most drive-by shootings in the U.S.

SAN FRANCISCO

California had the most; 148 drive-bys, one-third of them involving gangs.

• 17 percent of the victims were under the age of 18.
• 39 percent occurred at homes
• 15 percent involved shooting at another vehicle.
• 42 percent occurred between 7 p.m. and midnight.

The study was based on news reports from two years ago and was conducted by the Violence Policy Center, a group dedicated to reducing gun deaths.
