The equipment problem was reported at about 3:35 p.m. on a Richmond-bound train that was near the Montgomery station in San Francisco, BART spokesman Jim Allison.
Passengers were taken off the train at the Montgomery station. Crews responded and were in the process of getting the train out of the way as of 3:55 p.m., Allison said.
The problem is causing delays of up to 20 minutes on East Bay-bound trains, he said.
