The Alameda County Fire Department wants to hire recruits for its next academy class starting in March.
The department recently grew when it took over fire protection in Union City and Newark.
Applicants must apply by the end of next month and meet certain standards.
"We have minimum qualifications in that either that you need to be a Firefighter I and an EMT I, one of our reserves. We'll also take firefighters who are on the displacement list on the state level who've been laid off anywhere in the state," says Alameda County Fire Department Chief Sheldon Gilbert.
The Alameda County Fire Department also serves Castro Valley, San Leandro and Dublin along with the Lawrence Berkeley and Lawrence Livermore National Labs.
