Cal Fire responded at about 3:30 a.m. to a report of a burning van parked in a turnout off of Highway 152, about a mile west of the Merced County line, Sgt. Rick Sung said.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze and found the bodies in the van, Sung said. The van did not appear to have been involved in a crash, and the cause of the fire is under investigation, he said.
The sheriff's office is investigating the deaths as suspicious, Sung said.
