The car uses compressed natural gas so it will get excellent mileage, and according to the manufacturer, is the first vehicle designed from the ground up for wheelchair accessibility.
A prototype was shown off Wednesday morning for senior citizens who were able get in and out using a motorized ramp. Some noticed a huge difference from the current cabs that lift them backwards onto the vehicle.
"This is the first time that I have been able to enter and exit the van facing forward, which is a safer way to exit and enter," said Bruce Oka with the SFMTA Board of Directors.
Luxor Cabs will get the first shipment of these green vehicles in September.
