The Contra Costa Times reports more toll cheaters than expected are using the lane without paying. The 14 mile express lane is free to carpoolers but, it's open to single drivers who pay a fee based on traffic congestion at the time using FasTrak.
Officials say it's too time consuming for officers to spot and ticket violators. The cameras will be used to identify drivers who enter the lanes in illegal entry spots.
