Police Chief Greg Suhr and Recreation and Park Department General Manager Phil Ginsburg planned to join other city officials this afternoon -- the first day of summer -- to announce the initiative at a news conference in Golden Gate Park.
Police and Recreation and Park Department rangers will partner with Animal Care and Control officers and the Department of Public Health to bump up officers' presence in city parks, particularly Golden Gate Park.
Police said making officers and rangers more visible will help increase visitors' sense of safety and will encourage more use of the parks.
Today's news conference is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at the pilot skateboarding park at Stanyan and Waller streets.
