Fans gathered outside Evans Diamond to greet the team as it returned home from the College World Series.
Cal was eliminated after losing to Virginia Thursday night. Still, the Bears finished in a tie for fifth in Omaha which was their best showing there in 31 years. Not bad for a program that needed a massive fundraising effort to avoid extinction earlier this year.
"Once in a lifetime for our kids and it's just a great experience to play at that level of competition against the best teams in the nation, and hey, to be in the top 5 team in the country, when it's all said and done, what a great year," said Cal head coach David Esquer.
The Bears say they plan on getting back to Omaha next season.
