Tweeting costs Pres. Obama Twitter followers

SAN FRANCISCO

According to the website Mashable, the president lost over 36,000 of his 9 million Twitter followers when he began tweeting out a message to voters of each state asking for them to reach out to their congressional representatives.

The campaign had the opposite effect on Republican congressmen on Twitter, with the National Journal reporting a gain of around 6,500 followers collectively.

Senator Roy Blunt, a Republican from Missouri, was pushed over 11,000 followers due in part to President Obama's Twitter campaign.

President Obama had 9.3 million followers as of Saturday afternoon. The president recently began tweeting on his own in an effor to reach out to his constituents ahead of the 2012 presidential election.
